Title Paralegal - Litigation

Description
This position performs a variety of duties to assist a group of litigation lawyers in a small but growing downtown Los Angeles office. The qualified candidate will be the sole paralegal in the office and must be thoughtful, organized, proactive, and team-oriented. The candidate will maintain positive contact with clients and observe confidentiality of client matters.
Qualified candidates must be proficient in the following skills:
Complete understanding of the litigation process
Coordinate with clients and co-counsel during all phases of discovery; manage all facets of case from discovery through trial
Organize and maintain case files; coordinate with secretaries and other staff
Manage large cases and databases
Prepare and maintain issue and subject-matter files
Review and analyze discovery requests and assist lawyers with responses
Coordinate document reviews with legal team and clients
Assist with document reviews for responses to discovery requests and to identify privileged documents, documents for redaction, case issues in context
Prepare privilege logs
Prepare and maintain document and transcript databases in various formats
Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
Proficient in litigation applications such as Relativity and IPRO
Prepare witness files and deposition preparation files
Prepare court filings and service to counsel; experience with e-filing
Interact with clients, consultants, and vendors
Proficient in cite checking, Shepardizing, and Bluebooking
Hands-on trial preparation and experience
Keep accurate time records
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree with a 3.5 cumulative GPA
Approximately 5 years of defense litigation experience in a mid- to large-size law firm
Strong, concise communication and written skills
Able to work overtime, including weekends; some travel may be necessary
Able to lift boxes that weigh up to 20 lbs.; able to sit or stand for long periods of time
