JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: Under general direction, manages the daily activities of the General Counsel department (Office of the General Counsel, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Governmental Relations; and Office of Billing and Research Compliance), including administrative, financial, electronic, clerical, and personnel issues; serves as the primary assistant to the Vice President and General Counsel; interacts in the name of and on behalf of vice president with units of the University and external entities; supervises staff; coordinates activities with support offices and staff; represents the division in coordination efforts with government executives and legislative offices.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include any and/or all of the following:
Manages the daily activities of the department, including general administration, finance, information management, human resources, and other operation issues; delegates assignments to members of the unit; prepares financial reports for the University's president and others; monitors legal expenses and relationships with outside counsel.
Interacts on behalf of vice president with internal and external constituencies, including the University president, trustees, vice presidents, deans, directors, external counsel, legislative personnel, and representatives for the purpose of assuring unit responsibilities are met and necessary coordination occurs; drafts correspondence; manages vice president's calendar.
Collaborates with the Director of Legislative Relations, facilitates organizational meetings and leadership activities involving legislative offices to coordinate events on campus; assists with requests for funding through legislative offices and other governmental relations issues.
Reviews, negotiates as appropriate, and monitors service contracts; coordinates major purchases; determines needs and space requirements for offices; coordinates information technology functions; develops, monitors, and maintains budget; prepares departmental annual budget, reviewing past expenses and projecting future requirements; ensures proper adjustments are performed on accounts to reflect current status of the budget; reviews, makes recommendations, and processes revisions for the budgets.
Manages human resource functions including hiring, training, and supervision of professional and support staff; resolves personnel issues; responsible for SCT Banner processing; completes and reviews performance communication discussions.
Compiles reports to meet deadlines and satisfy information requests for the University president and board of trustees; compiles statistical data and prepares related correspondence; performs other duties as assigned.
Serves as the primary administrative assistant to the Vice President and General Counsel.
Performs other duties as assigned.
